Treatment of Piles (Haemorrhoids):
In initial stage, mild symptoms are relieved by use of mild laxatives, use of fibre-rich food e.g. green vegetables, avoiding excessive straining to reduce the pressure on haemorrhoids and use of oral medicines or local application of ointments, etc. In painful conditions, especially in fissure-in-ano, sitz bath in hot water for about 5-10 minutes can provide relief from pain and inflammation.
- Modified Cryosurgery
- Rubber band ligation
- MIPH
- Sclerotherapy/Injection Therapy
- Haemorrhoidectomy
1.Modified Cryo - Surgery
At Gattani hospital we perform piles operation by modified cryo technique. Though cryo technique has been condemned by most of the centres because of side effects like persistent discharge, severe pain, bleeding, swelling, infections etc. yet at our centre we have made a balanced use of cryo, ligation, excision & sometimes if required injection to give almost 100% relief to the patient with minimum discomfort & side effects. We are giving the best result from last 39 years by this technique. By now we have operated 20000 patients by this technique & the results are almost 100% which we can say by feedback & follow up of each & every patient operated at our centre.
In last 7 years, because of advances in investigations & thorough check up of patients before surgery, the complications are reduced to bare minimum even in diabetic, thyroid, cardiac patients. In last 7 years, 5000 cases were operated at our centre out of which only 8-10 patients had postoperative bleeding which was managed skillfully with minimum discomfort to patient. The side effects mentioned earlier with cryo were minimum with our modified cryo technique, so almost every patient is comfortable after surgery.
- Rubber band ligation
It is given in internal haemorrhoids that protrude with bowel movement. With the help of specially made instrument for this purpose, a small rubber band is placed around the piles near to pedicle which cuts off its blood supply.
- MIPH
This procedure of stapler surgery to curb hemorrhoid is gaining popularity these days. However, there is some problem attendant to it and this procedure is found to have more incidence of recurrence than the conventional hemorrhoid surgery. Few very uncommon and life threatening complications have been reported with this procedure. So before choosing this procedure for yourself, get assured that you are being operated by a surgeon who has got a good experience in this technique so that he can avoid such formidable complications. This procedure is quite expensive when compared with any other surgical option for hemorrhoids.
- Piles Injection
An injection is given in the haemorrhoids which eradicates the piles within 7-10 days. Most of the patients feel pain during the procedure. It is a 5-10 minute job (depends upon patient to patient). Normal patient can go home and do their routine as well. Patient has to come 2-4 times for the follow up (as required). It also has many side effects. E.g. necrosis of anal tissues, Bleeding, severe pain, Anal stenosis etc. Reccurrence is very commonafter this procedure.
5.Haemorrhoidectomy
This method is widely used by the surgeons. It is necessary in thrombosis of the external haemorrhoids, failure of rubber band ligation in internal haemorrhoids in 3rd degree piles, protruding haemorrhoids which cannot be reduced and in persistent bleeding. In haemorrhoidectomy, piles (haemorrhoids) which protrude out and cause bleeding are removed under anaesthesia. It requires hospitalization and complete rest depending upon the condition of the patient. But recurrence of disease is seen commonly in the patients.
